Is that hope we feel?
It’s Tuesday, friends, and before we get to the latest terrible, horrible, no good, very bad news, we want to talk about a piece of advice that’s sneakily optimistic:
“Never let a crisis go to waste.”
We’ve been thinking about that quip a lot lately as the coronavirus pandemic has become a global catastrophe, and as racial injustice in our country has become too obvious for many white Americans to ignore.
Because this moment of upheaval also feels like a moment of opportunity, especially when it comes to another global catastrophe: climate change.
After decades of slow, halting progress on everything from carbon emissions to racial justice, things seem to be happening faster now.
Monuments are falling, highway expansions are hitting roadblocks, and assumptions about “what’s possible” are suddenly flying out the window.
So what is possible? Thanks to support from our sponsor VertueLab, we’re going to be digging into that question, and we also want to hear Qs from you.
What do you want to know about the response to the climate crisis here in Portland and across the Northwest?
Send us your burning questions about clean energy, consumer boycotts, infrastructure projects, environmental justice, and anything else related to climate action.
We’ll pick four to answer throughout the summer, and if you’re a Bridgeliner member, we’ll give you bonus updates on what we’re learning along the way.
